BAC Sav-Rx Delivers Savings
Just one year ago, at the recommendation of BAC’s Health Care Task Force, the BAC Sav-Rx program was made available to health and welfare funds to help control the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs. The BAC Sav-Rx program uses a coalition approach to purchasing drugs. Under the plan, as the number of participants grows, the program’s purchasing power increases and its ability to negotiate lower prescription drug costs improves.
“Although we still haven’t reached full participation, those funds that have signed on and the members they cover are already reaping the benefits,” says BAC President John J. Flynn.
Effective December 1, 2004, the rates for retail brand name drugs was lowered from the Average Wholesale Price (AWP) less 15.5 percent discount to the AWP less 16 percent discount.
Sav-Rx also passes on 100 percent of all rebates received directly to BAC local health funds.
In addition to providing savings on prescription drug coverage to members, Sav-Rx has become a valuable ally in participating Locals’ efforts to encourage pharmacies to build their new facilities with BAC members.
